Almost there....
Only a couple more days until I depart Buffalo and arrive in San Salvador, although I have been thinking more about the Great Lakes recently. List two environmental problems facing the Great Lakes ecosystem. You can use chapter 6-3 as a reference. Now compare these issues to the Bahamas. Are they similar? How? This assignment should be complete by Monday 2-23-09.

two environmental problems facing the great lakes ecosystem are pollution and habitat alteration. these issues are similar to the bahamas because we are always changing the environment and our pollution spreads everywhere. we are trying to reduce pollution and all the problems with the ecosystem though by recycling and preserving animal life and things related to that.

All ecosystems are faceing polution problems not just the great lakes and the bahamas. the are also faceing is over development wich is makeing animal ecosystem smaller

1. The overpopulation of Zebra Muscles are a problem facing the Great Lakes. They create competition for others and have no predators allowing them to grow exponentially. This invasive species takes food from others and continues to reproduce causing more of a problem
2.Pollution is another environmental problem facing the Great Lakes. Pollutants are deposited in the Great Lakes and poisons the animals that live there. Especially the fish, which we then eat, consuming the toxins ourselves.
These issues are comparable to the Bahamas because there water could be polluted also, creating the same problem. Also an invasive species could inhabit areas in the Bahamas and create a decline in the native species.

Some of the enviromental problems that
the Great lakes face would be pollution caused by 1.)chemicals like PBDEs and 2.)the decrease in # of predators as well as other fish.
These are similar to the issues that occur in the Bahamas because many chemicals from projects like the tiger woods project. There is also a decrease in the biodiversty of this area partly from the chemicals in the area.

The Great Lakes ecosystem experiences many environmental problems. These problems include pollution and invasive species. Pollution is something that the Great Lakes and the Bahamas share because here, the smoke from factories mostly contributes to the pollution, and in the Bahamas, all of the pollution from cruise ships, tankers, and other vessels are contributing to the problem. Also, the problem of invasive species is shared by the Great Lakes and the Bahamas because they both are experiencing new organisms being introduced that are spreading rapidly and some disrupting the natural cycle of the ecosystem.

Two problems affecting the Great Lakes are pollution and introduction of new species. These problems are also affecting the Bahamas. Since fishing ships go out to see and to the Bahamas they bring new species that have no natural predators. Factories is also polluting the air and water.

The overpopulation of Zebra Muscles are a great problem in the Great Lakes. They reproduce at an exponential growth because there are no natural predators. They also eat all the food in the lakes leaving little or none for the other fish.
Pollution is another environmental problem throughout the Great Lakes. Pollutants come from factories in the Great Lakes and put toxins in the animals that live there.
These issues are also in the Bahamas because water can be polluted anywhere. Ships which carry these invasive species dont just go through the Great Lakes.
Two environmental problems facing the Great Lakes are pollution and the overpopulation of zebra muscles. The Bahamas also face pollution and invasive species problems because of human interference. Shannon2
Great Lakes:
1)Pollution -- residual pollution from chemicals dumped by factories along the lakes
2)Invasive Species -- organisms brought in by boat by accident, the zebra mussel is a fitting example of this
San Salvador, Bahamas:
1)Invasive Species -- The cactoblastis cactorum moth was introduced, devastating the population of the cacti opuntia stricta, and important food source for the indigenous rock iguana
2)Pollution -- It has been hypothesised that mosquito control chemicals recently implemented to aid tourism may be the cause of a large, sudden die-off of the aforementioned iguanas
