PRE TRIP QUESTIONS???
11/1/08
Starting off on this experience, questions I need help answering are:
1- Is climate change a subject that students in 3rd-6th grade can or should understand?
2- Can students in elementary schools conduct modified data collection similar to what we will be collecting at SERC?
3- I do think the information I learn is important to share with the teachers that I work with. How can I make it useful for them in the classroom? What parts of this experience should I emphasize when I share it with elementary school teachers?
Things are falling into place to help me answer this:
1- I received a dream job as outreach coordinator that seems to combine my interests of improving public education and helping kids foster a relationship with nature.
2- I was awarded a fellowship on this Earthwatch HSBC Workshop to learn about methods of collecting data about climate change and its effects on ecosystems.
3- Lynn Cherry an author of a book that might help me figure out ways to present issues of climate change to younger students is coming to D.C. the weekend I finish my workshop.
