Post Workshop Post.....

Well, it's taken me some time to post something here, because I spent a lot of time thinking and less time writing about my experiences at SERC and since returning.

It's rare for me these days to spend a week thinking about any one thing-- usually there are so many things going on that it's hard to focus on one. In my job, we focus on every aspect surrounding climate change and it shapes everything that we do. But still, I rarely have the chance to focus intently on climate change-- the underlying cause of why our organization exists. In my community, I'm ashamed to say I rarely engage my newfound expertise on the topic. And in my personal life, I'm doing much more than the average person, but what more can I do? And what more can I learn to help myself make the right choices?

These were the reasons I applied to attend this workshop.

In the end, the most valuable lesson came on the community level-- seeing how involved my fellow participants were in their own community was truly inspiring. As a the youngster in the crowd (a fact that, interestingly, defined me more than I would have imagined the norm to be...i suppose my youth was a face to the otherwise vague "future generations" that we spent all week talking about?) I have lived in many different places in the past few years, and thus, my sense of community is weaker than perhaps it should be. So this was a welcome change.
