Back to Reality....

Today was my first day back and I have to admit it was rough.  I long for the days in the forest and the clear Canadian Air!  I can't stop thinking about my journey and all of the incredible people that I met and had the opportunity to work with.  I am so excited to share my knowledge acquired in the field with my students and community.  I am anxious to present to our local Nature Society Group and to my students and co-workers.  I can't think about my journey without getting teary eyed.  Dr. Buesching and Dr. Newman are so incredible and are such an inspiration.  I hope that I too can inspire my students through my teachings as they inspired me through their teachings.  I want to share my experiences and inspire my students to become stewards to the community.  I am so thankful for this amazing experience.  I want to thank Allison Roach from the Earthwatch Institute for selecting me to participate in this incredible journey.  It forever changed  my life and my teachings!  I keep counting the days until I can participate in another field experience.  I am so blessed to have met and worked with three amazing and incredibly talented teachers, Amber Carrow, Chris Boesetti and Ann Smith.  I will also treasure my friendships with  Alan Fortecuse, Ms Ami Bird, Marilyn Peter, Pascal, Chantil, Helen, Karen, Andrew, Misato and of course the team's furry friend, Lycos.  Thank you to Ami for your constant laughter and joy that you bring into this world.  To my Australian friends, I can't wait to come and visit!  To my British pals, I will be visiting you when I come to see the Formula One Race in England.  Ami and Marilyn, you are a few hours away so you better visit me!  And to my new Swiss friend, Pascal, hopefully we will meet again!  To Misato, Miss Hare Poo, I will always think of you with a smile and hope that we too will meet again.  And to my team of teachers...we will meet again and I look forward to collaborating with you in the near future on stewardship projects!!  And Ms Ann, my trapping and mapping partner, I will meet in you in Sunny Florida over the Holiday break!!  Thank you to the Earthwatch Institute Live from the Field Committee, Dr. Buesching and Dr. Newman, to HSBC and to Wells Fargo for your generous sponsorship and support in this educational endeavor.  Through your generosity, I will impact the next generation!  Thank you again to everyone for making this life changing event possible!  Bless you all!

My Last Day Recap...

Today was amazing! I am really sad to leave.  We had the most perfect day at Thomas Raddall Provincial Park.  We took a 3 hour walk along the shore and looked for field signs.  It was a perfect day!  Sunny, windy and a chilly breeze but spectacular!  I still have to pack and get ready for bed.  I just cleaned the house for everyone and now I need to get m y bags together.  I will just post a couple shots of the most beautiful scenery I have seen!!  I will update tomorrow from the airport if I have time!

Mouse or Vole?

Abby--Take a look at the photos of the mouse and the vole and notice the adaptation differences.  Mice has large eyes and ears and long tails.  Mice are omnivores and thrive off a variety of food including insects.  Voles are smaller and lack the large eyes and ears.  The are herbivores.

This is a common deer mouse with the long tail. A rock vole is pictured to the left.
