Labor Day Weekend

We have been watching Hurricane Gustav and tracking the storms course. Looks like it is going to miss our state but is heading towards New Orleans.
St. Petersburg is located on the west side of Florida. Can you locate where Pinellas county is on the picture? Where is New Orleans located?
We are definitely getting effects of the storm. Lots of clouds, wind and a few showers. There has been a high surf advisory with 15 - 20 ft waves.

School Has Started

School has started for us and what a start it was! Tropical Storm Fay delayed our opening. We were lucky and did not receive as much rain as the east coast of Florida did. This time we were lucky and the storm passed us by.

I wonder what kind of weather Nova Scotia has? Do they get hurricanes? Do they have hot weather like we do?

School is Starting Soon

I was so excited when I got my acceptance letter from Earthwatch saying I was going to be participating in a project in Nova Scotia. My school, Perkins Elementary is located in St. Petersburg, Florida. I think that is a long way from Nova Scotia. I wonder how far away it is? Maybe the students will know?

There are many questions about the mammals I will see there? I wonder what makes an animal a mammal? Guess I better ask the students for clarification. I wonder what kind of mammals I will see?

I am anxious to share my upcoming adventure with the students and hopefully they can help me out as I prepare for my trip.
