Pearl River Here We Come

Today I went to the French Quarter of New Orleans with three other teachers in the morning. We walked along the Mississippi river and saw a steamboat that is used for tours. After lunch Dr. Dyer told us all about the research project. Then, we headed out to the Pearl River WMA. We are truly in a Louisiana Bayou.
Yesterday I asked about the types of trees in New Orleans. Today, see if you can find the types of trees that are found in a bayou. Where does the word bayou come from?

Hi Mrs Rodriguez!
The word bayou was first recorded used by the French in Louisiana. It is thought to originate with an Indian Tribe.
Have fun!
Kaeley V. P.S. Did you know that I had Mrs. Gilbert for a long term sub last year?

A bayou is a small, slow-moving stream or creek, or a lake or pool (bayou lake) that lies in an abandoned channel of a stream. Bayous are usually located in relatively flat, low-lying areas, for example, in the Mississippi River delta region of the southern United States. A bayou is frequently a slackwater anabranch or minor braid of a braided channel, that is moving with less velocity than the mainstem. Many bayous are the home of crawfish, certain species of shrimp, other shellfish, and catfish.
