Bees and Butterflies
I went hunting in my backyard today for caterpillars or butterflies. It was a cloudy day and I didn't find any. I wonder if the weather has an effect on the activities of butterflies? Late in the day, the sun came out for a little while. I saw 2 bees on some goldenrod in my garden and I decided to try out taking a video and posting it to my blog. Later tonight I'm going to see if I can find any moths to photograph. Listen to the video for another question to answer.
1. Does weather affect the activity of caterpillars, butterflies, and moths?
2. How far into fall will there still be butterflies and moths flying around in Connecticut?
3. What do butterflies and moths do during the winter?

Hey, hope you like air you can see! To answer question number 3, most moths and butterflies spend the winter as eggs or puape, only a few are winter catepillers
Hey its Erik! The answer to 3 is that most butterflies spend the winter as eggs or larva. Have in New Orleans!
Mrs.Rodriguez
In areas where temperatures drop below freezing about 50% of butterflies spend the winter as caterpillars, while the other 50% spend the winter pupas. A few species, mainly tortoiseshells and anglewings, spend the winter as adults, hibernating in holes in trees, gaps in human structures, or other shelters. Also a small amount of butterflies spend the winter as eggs.

Hi I just found out that when the monarch butterflies migrate the weather does effect them. The different forms of precipitation like snow and rain may prevent them from migrating. Also snow can kill them if it is too cold. Cold weather will slow them down and warm weather will make them go faster. Also the wind might make them slow down and if it is too hot and dry they won't be able to find much nectar. Also in the summer butterflies don't like the cold or windy weather. They usually find a place to hide until the sun comes out. That is probably why you didn't say any butterflies when you were outside and it was cloudy.
During the winter, the Monarch butterfly flies to Mexico
Hi Mrs. Rodriguez! The videos on your blog look great. You must be so excited to begin your adventure. I'll enjoy reading your blog while you are in LA. Have a wonderful learning experience!
Does weather affect the activity of caterpillars, butterflies, and moths?
Hi Mrs. Rodriguez,
I think weather does affect the activity of the caterpillars, butterflies, and moths, because if it is rainy then the rain could damage their wings.
adele :-)
I think moths and butterflies either hibernate or move where it is warm because in the winter when it is too cold, there is nothing for them to eat.

butterflys doned live here in the winter. thay plant there eggs, for when the winter is over they will hach.
The weather does affect the growth of caterpillars because warm summers are most likely to make the proceeder to a butterfly or moth faster. Cold long winters will take a bit longer.
Durinig the winter butterflies and moths go south.
