Hello! I teach 7th grade World Geography, 8th grade History and Environmental Studies at St. Michael/Albertville Middle School in Minnesota. Starting mid-April I’m heading to Nova Scotia to work along side scientists studying the effects of climate change on the mammals of the area. Read below to catch-up on all of my adventures and participate in the challenges!

Hey everyone! Thanks for your comments, especially from my responsive hour. It was great to hear from you all after a long day out in the field. Today we started our research and took a hike through the area we are surveying during this week. Then in the afternoon we set our first traps. Our goal is to get a rough estimate of how many mice and voles are in a 100 meter radius. Watch the video to see exactly what we are doing.

Challenge:
1. Today we had awesome weather! It was 12°C (Celsius) and expected to get up to 15 or 16 in the next couple of days! What is that in Fahrenheit?

2. We will hopefully be seeing a number of different animals throughout my two weeks here, but what are some animals living here that will be hard for me to see? Name 5 animals on the endangered species list for animals and explain 3 reasons why you think they are endangered.

Ms. Messick,

How would you go about catching a larger species, such as a porqupine? Also, have you seen any bears or species that stop you in your tracks?

Thanks
