Small mammals

As part of the research, we will have to live-trap small mammals.  Why would Dr. Kershaw need to do this?   What mammals might be trapped in Canada?

You might have to trap the smaller mamals because it would be hard to take tests on them if they were in your hands. Some small mamals you might find in Canada include mice, beavers, and maybe even porcupines.

You might need to trap animals to see if they have made any adaptations because of climate change. (An example would be if their fur got thinner.) Some animals you might trap to study would be chipmunks, squirrels, or even small seals.

You have to live trap Animals in order to be able to study them without hurting them.Farmers use this technique to catch animals that harm there crops.Scientist use this to find animals to study and also to learn witch animals live in a certain area. In churchill the variety of animals might change due to climate change as some creture's habitats will be destroyed while new habitats may be made aviable.

Live trapping animals might be used to catch animals without them being hurt. This can be used to catch raccoons, woodchucks and put them far away. But, Dr.Kershaw may use them to trap squirrels, beavers, and maybe an Opossum.

In this area, the live animals that are found in this area are lemmings, voles, and some mice. Do you know what a vole or lemming is? I just found out that they did not get the permits for the live trapping - so we will be doing other projects.

I had heard recently that the move the locations of these traps regularly to see if they cn determine feeding patterns with the small mammals.

Is that something they do ay the Churchill site?

you may have to trap small mammals in order to see if they have been effected by the climate change in any way. If they have you will be able to get a better understanding of the climate.

Unfortunately we will not be trapping animals this year. They need a permit to trap, and they did not apply for one. Part of the reason for traps is to get a census of the type and number of animals. Spencer, how would that be a part of climate change?
