Lichen, Cranberries, and Blueberries

Here are pictures of some of the plants we are recording. The first picture is vaccinium vitis-idaea (lowbush cranberry) and vaccinium uliginosum (blueberry). The second picture is arctostaphylos alpina (Alpine Bearberry) and cladina stellaris (a type of lichen) We enjoyed eating the cranberries and blueberries.
Can anyone tell me what a lichen is? What is in the third picture?

A lichen is a symbiosis. That means that it has two or more organisms living in the same place. One of the basic components are a fungus called the mycobiont and photobiont.

I found out that the linchen sppecies is made from two or three orgnasims combined. One kind of species is a alga or a fungus. They absorbe most of the mineral nutrients from the rainfall and air.

A Lichen is two or more organisms living together and they both are more successful with each other than they would if they were living on their own.

Hey! I'm in the black team in 7th grade and I was wondering what that third picture looked like. It looks like a mushroom to me, but i have no idea. Hope you found interesting research on your trip :)
