Challenge #7 Cyrpress Knees

7th grade: Look at this picture. The knobs sticking out are called "cypruss knees" because they are part of bald cypress trees. Scientists started studying the cypress trees and think they may have a function. Do some research and try to find out what the function of these might be in the ecosystem or the environment.

So your challenge is
1. Find out why cypress knees could possibly benefit the swamp environment.

1. Cypress knees could beneift the swamp eviorment because scientist believe that they may help in providing oxygen to the tree and assist in in anchoring the tree in the soft muddy soil. Another popular view is that they are providing oxygen to the roots that grow in low dissolved oygen waters typical of a swamp.

*Fact: Trees that develop these "knees" are;

1.Glyptostrobus
2. Bald Cypress
3. Pond Cypress
and last but i don't think least
4. Ahuehuete

* Thank you and have a nice day and watch for snakes, we don't want you coming back with bruises!!
