Day 4 LABMAN enters the picture.
I have met eleven fantastic teachers. Some teach high school, others elementary or secondary. They teach a wide range of subjects.
Go to one of their blog pages and report to me what you learned from them. If you want, make a comment to them also, go ahead. To access their blogs you must go to “The Earth Watch Landing Page”. There is a link on my South Park Teacher Page.
We finished our PCQ sampling in the morning and began boring (taking a core to count the rings) trees today.
We also found an old rocket. Apparently, in the 1950’s this place was an atmospheric research station. They shot rockets up, and took measurements of the air. The shells fell back to earth. I guess there are hundreds of pieces of “scrap rocket” around.
I am looking for QUESTIONS from you!!!!!
Oh…..and by the way, it seems as though this is the best time of year to see The Northern Lights. Last nights display was phenomenal.

That is a really cool pic of the northern lights!!!
Do you have a number yet on how deep the permafrost is yet? Are you doing a species count of the plants that you find ? If so what is the population density of one species of tree (you pick), what is the population dispersion like for a plant species in that area? Take your time in returning the answers, but I showed my students the website yesterday and they came up with the questions. (I decided to do a little Ecology first in my LE classes)

Mr. Lab Man,
Wow, my friend just told me about your blog. It is so cool! I have learned so much by reading it. I hope your school and students are logging on often and telling everyone about it. There are no teachers in my school that are doing cool things like this! I'm certainly going to tell everyone I know about it!

Hi Mr. Hovey!
Does it damage the trees when you bore holes into them? What kinds of wildlife have you seen?

The color of the Northern Lights there is fabulous! The last time I witnessed this phenomenon was about six years ago, and it was blood red!
