The Last Blog

Well, students, this is the last blog from Nova Scotia and I am both excited to come home and sad to leave. It has been such a wonderful experience learning first hand what type of research scientists have been doing, as well as meeting so many interesting people. I have been enriched in many ways and can't wait to share with you when I'm back at home. Today, it rained so we did not get to have our survival skill training, which I wanted to show you pictures of, however I will get the training tomorrow. We finished our last day of trapping today; so we collected all the traps, cleaned them up and then went over all the data that we collected. We looked at the numbers of voles, mice and lemming that we caught and then compared those numbers to other data that was collected with other research teams. As the numbers change, we look at factors that may be causing those changes. I can't wait to go over all the results of the data when I come home. I miss you and love you all.
Peace - Ms. Carrow

Friday's warm-up

Why do you think it is important for people to go on Earthwatch trips? If you had the opportunity would you want to do something like this? Would you be willing to pick up mice and voles? Would you be willing to look for poop? Would you be afraid or excited to do scientific research? Let me know how you feel about all of this. - 4 sentences -

Hey Students,

I love reading all your comments. I can't wait to come back home and talk to you about resources and how our natural resources related to our daily lives, including the food that we eat. I am learning so much and I am excited to share it all with you. I really do not have time to write a long and detailed blog today as we were out late doing research. These are a few pictures from the trip. I hope that you enjoy them. I also included another video of team A taking out a tree. I know that you have seen a lot of them but it is really hard and I am impressed with ourselves. The second video shows a flying squirrel that we caught in one of our traps. The squirrel doesn't actually fly, it just glides from tree to tree. We checked out the squirrel and then released him (don't worry he was fine). We will be going over all the numbers and the data that we collect on Friday so that when I come home I can share some of the numbers with you and explain what they mean and how it relates to our environment and climate change.

Thursday's warm-up -

Write 4 sentences about the Arabian Peninsula and Islam. You can write about anything that you have learned thus far. Try to include details in your sentences, not just short one fact sentences. - 4 sentences -
