I'm Here Safe and Sound!

Hello all,
I arrived in Nassau late last night after about 10 hours of traveling and then flew to San Salvador this morning. The island is beautiful! The water is teal with white sand. It was a little chilly when we got in but we were still able to tour around the island and go "downtown" to the grocery store. It was too windy to snorkle today but we are hoping to make up for it tomorrow. You would be amazed at how warm the water is :) ....I unfortunatly don't have a lot to report on but I will hopefully have a lot more tomorrow. Hope you are all enjoying your weekend and I will write again tomorrow......Question for the day: Why do you think it is so windy this time of the year in San Salvador? Talk to you tomorrow - Ms. Biersbach ( I will also have some real pictures I took tomorrow unfortunatly the downloader is down today)

To answer today's question; i think that during this time of the year, it is very windy because the tropic of Cancer passes through the area of San Salvador and i know that during June 21, the sun is always up at noon, but unfortunatly it is the middle of november and the air passes the Caribbeans and Hondura leaving San Salvador with no precipitation but with only dry, hot, and hazy air.

There could be many reasons why it is very windy in San Salvador. For example, one of the reasons could be that the area that you live in could be near the coast, which could increase the amount of wind.

Mrs. Biersbach, is it really chilly in the water when you go diving? Also, during the Springtime, is it hot or as cold as it is in winter?

Also, since your in San Salvador, are there any whales, or dolphins located near where you are researching?

I think that the reason it's so windy in San Salvador is because it's about to transition into winter. And so the greater difference between the warmer temperatures during the day and colder ones at night is causing the convection in the wind currents.

that sounds so pretty. was there any strange things that they sell in the store or was it the same as California stores? it is proubly7 windy because one thing it is winter and there are not a lot of buildings to slow the wind down. How is it cold out side but the water is hot?

What's up Ms. Biersbach? Here are some questions. This counts as one: Are there any other dangerous creatures? If there are, what were your instructions if you encountered one?
The next: Was there any change in the coral?

It does look like it was really windy? Did the wind calm down? Was it difficult to do the study with the wind??

Hello, yeah okay so I'm a little late.
but you said that the water is teal and the sand is white, and that's not wait it looks like back hear. is it because of the bleaching? Does it kill bacteria in the water and get rid of the color of the sand? I think it would be good if it killed the bacteria because of tourists but what about the animals that feed off the bacteria?

Ms.Biersbach is the island close to a cold area because it's why the island is cold (is it?).

wow, it sounds pretty :D
So you guys just kinda hang around the first day and get used to the island?

Hi Ms.Biersbach, glad you enjoyed your trip. Well to answer the question, my guess is the "el niƱo" which is what they call it when theres like a tropical depression and its really warm and windy? Well i've heard about it, not sure what it is exactly, but ive heard it tends to happen in tropical places along the equator. maybe its that?

what does it being windy have to do with you guys being able to snorkel?

I believe San salvador is encoutering these strong winds this time of year beacuse it is winter and its also an island which means its surrounded by the ocean which brings in more breeze and winds

November, December, January, and February are one of the most coldest months in San Salvador. The Most reasonable Reason why it must be so cold its because its winter time.

San Salvador is amazing, according to what the picture shows, the view is incredible!I think that it is so windy this time of the year in San Salvador because it's winter already and the climate has been changing dramatically because of global warming.

i think that it is cold in San Salvador because it is winter, but also becasue since the earth spins on axis around the sun, it is tilted and some areas don't recieve as much from the sun.

At December 2, 2008 6:23 AM , Blogger Karen said...

my guess to why its windy is because since its an island its a smaller body of land surronded by water and like the air current at this time of year could make it more windier than usual.

At December 2, 2008 6:25 AM , Blogger Karen said...

is the store small? and do they have the same things they sell here?

What would happen if you guys snorkle when it was windy?

At December 2, 2008 9:03 PM , Blogger Alberto L. said...

in San Salvador it's windy because the closer the ocean the windier it gets since the season changes effect the beaches sharply and if it's a cold season it gets colder than in different location and San Salvador is an island so it is practically a windier climate.

I think its so windy because your'e right on the coast...if i'm wrong why is it so windy?

At December 3, 2008 8:46 AM , Blogger Sandy said...

i think its so windy b/c your'e right on the coast

At December 3, 2008 8:52 AM , Blogger Sandy said...

maybe there is so much wind b/c you are right on the coast...if im wrong what is the reason?

At December 4, 2008 1:31 PM , Blogger Vivian said...

I think that it is cold in San Salvador because it is almost winter. Usually, the closer you are to the water, the cooler you are (at least that is what I believe). The elevation is low making the wind access to the city better.

If it's windy in San Salvador... how is the water still warm?

How is the grocery store? :D
