What is the Bahimian Reef Survey?
It is an observation on the reef. They test if bleach affects the coral reef.

The survey seems really complicated and fun at the same time.

It seems a little bit complicated to swim far down in order to measure the density of the coral and be able to stay in the same spot for a period of time without floating to the surface of the water or running out of air.

what is invovled in the research? the things that are involved in te research are the tool they use for example the quadrat this is used to collect data form different corals or other stuff the method they use to collect data using this tool is called point-intercept method. They are testing corals and other stuff under the reef.

Coral reefs get bleached natrually. Symbiotic zooxantheallae is lost as well as or photosynthetic pigment concentrations in zooxanthellae residing within scleractinian corals. It can be caused by the change of water tempature, solar irradiance, sedimintation
Coral bleaching is rapidly increasing and has been for the past 20 years.

Queston: What can occur if different species of marine life live in the area?

Answer: Well, i think that if the corals die then the other marine life will eventually die also.

Sorry, I'm a little late on this comment!

#1 The Bahamian Reef Survey was started to investigate coral bleaching.
#2 The Bahamian Reef Survey is a project designed to study & observe on the Bahamian Reefs.
#3 The goal is to figure out how to decrease coral bleaching.
#4 John Rolino, Tom McGrath, & Dr. Garriet Smith are among some of the people who are involved in this project.
#5 For research, they have to collect data not only on the reefs, but also on its environment such as temperature. Measurements are taken directly from the reefs instead of the surface.

^^^its a little long. my bad :[

The reason that they had began the bahamian reef survey or becuase to began to notice the bleaching in the coral, and they want to test out how coral in the island your are on are,(i believe)

If there is a coral bleaching, can you do anything to help it, or do you just leave it to die there, what is the point of checking on the coral, do they help the sea?

My Reflection/Answers:
They started a Bahamian reef survey to explore the cause of the widespread behavior of coral bleaching from the 1980s. His theories were always rejected because they could not be proven. So he went to San Salvador’s coral reefs for a more intense study. There, he started the Bahamian reef survey with Garriet Smith. The B.R.S is partially composed of 3 main researchers that are aiming to conduct long-term study with San Salvador’s island reefs. It is based on the study of nature’s coral decline in oceans. Also studies the origins of coral bleaching and disease. Its goal is to not only understand the cause of disease within the coral, but to also try to find ways to prevent it, the least to lessen the infections. John Rollino, Garriet Smith, Thomas McGrath, plus other volunteer researchers are involved in the matter. They have transects, which enable the researcher to measure the water temperature, clarity, and chemistry. They have a large plastic frame with grids of strings that allows researchers to find the point intercepts and quadrats. They also use these grids to separate and determine what kind of animal life resides on the coral at each point, whether it is sand, algae, compositions of coral, etc.
As I continue to read the article, I am amazed how many people are dedicated to the cause. I am also very interested on how they collected the data, along with the uses of its instruments. It seems that the 3 professors are the foundation of the Bahamian Reef Survey- (not only because they actually created it) they show remarkable dedication to the crisis and issuing the survey today shows it as well.

I think it is amazing how people are volunteering themselves to go out into the ocean and trying to save the reefs from further bleaching.

I look forward to seeing their progress in the future.
