Pathology Question #1 - What disease might Ms. U have when she returns to MA?

What is this object? Why was I told to immediately wash my hands after picking up this object in the forest?

This is a nine-banded armadillo shell. You should wash your hands immediately because the nine-banded armadillo often carries Hansen's disease (leprosy).

This picture resembles the nine banded armadillo, which is a native animal to Lousiana. You might have been told to immediately wash your hands because these animals are known to carry Leprosy, an infectious disease that causes nerve damage, disfiguring skin sores and progressive debilitation.

this resembles the skin of a nine banded armadillo which has been known to carry leprosy, an infectious skin disease. In the picture, it looks like the keratin plates have fallen off due to the infection, which is why the white undershell is exposed. It is important to wash your hands immediately because this is a dangerous disease that also affects humans.

LEPROSY dude.. I hope you don't get that. The object you picked up was an armadillo shell. Washing your hands could reduce the chances of you getting leprosy or hopefully prevent you from getting it. Armadillo's carry leprosy. Leprosy is caused by the organism Mycobacterium leprae. Leprosy has two common forms, tuberculoid and lepromatous. Both forms of this produce sores on the skin. The lepromatous is most severe, it produces large disfiguring nodules.
So let's hope you don't get that..
We all miss you

Ms. U
I think its an armadillo shell and the reason they told you to wash your hands was the fact that armadillo shells are known to carry bacteria leprosy (Hansen’s disease). The reason they carry the disease is their body tempatre is so low it thrives.
