Ready, Set.... Go?!

Prepare for our adventure...
It sure was hard for us to say goodbye to our beloved butterflies. They are beautiful insects but our journey with caterpillars is really just starting! Your favorite scientist (me) will be leaving very shortly on a scientific exploration that will take me to the heart of Louisiana. Before we go, we have some work to do. All scientists know that before an experiment, they have to do some research. I need your help with a few things. Are you ready caterpillar experts? First of all I am going to be working at the Pearl River Wildlife Management Area. That is in Louisiana's bayou. I need to be prepared for the specific climate and the unique wildlife that exist there.
Here is your challenge:
1. What is a bayou?
2. What kind of animals might I encounter while I am there?
3. What are some things I should pack in my suitcase so that I will be prepared for the climate (in October) and animals of
Louisiana
?

Hint: This will take some research. You can answer all or part of my challenge. Good luck detectives!

A bayou is a swampy area with some fresh water. It is a low land and it has lots of mud. There are trees and aligators in there. In the trees we think there will be caterpillars and butterflies.

We think you should pack a water bottle, sweatshirt, duct tape (in case your backpack rips), backpack, flashlight, sewing kit, first aid kit (if you get hurt), fan, extra snacks, bug repellant, bad clothes (in case you get dirty), rain boots, sunglasses and suntan lotion (for the sun), life jacket (for kayaking), camera (to show us the caterpillars you find) and a notepad (for taking notes on what you see).

We think you might see aligators, caterpillars, a bunch of butterflies, eggs, lots of birds, chrysalis, lots of moths, fish, tadpoles and frogs.

We think you should bring water, umbrella, mosquito spray, pants, long sleeve shirts, sneakers, rain jacket, food, chapstick, and your computer (so we can see you on the polycom). Bring your video camera too.

Miss Turner, I think that on your trip, you will see lots of frogs and toads in the water and maybe some on land. In the trees I think you will see butterflies on flowers and caterpillars feasting on leaves. I can't wait to see what kinds of animals you will see on your trip!

I hope none of your clothes get ripped on a branch or you do not get to ho or to cold.I hope a fire dos not start where you are,and stay safe. You should pack some snacks for when you get hungry and eat healthy foods when you are there.I wish I could come to,it would be so much fun,but it will also be fun for us to see you on the polycom and you can see us on your computer. Can you also take some close up pictures and bring them into class for us to see.I hope you have a safe flight or a different type of transportation.I still wish I could come to and see the class on the polycom.
