Caterpillars, Spiders and Snakes, Oh My!
Caterpillars are not the only interesting critters that I have seen here in Louisiana. The ecosystem here is very different from Rochester. I have seen creatures of all sizes including snakes, skinks, spiders, frogs, grasshoppers, beetles, bees, alligators, evidence of an armadillo (shell),
hawks, falcons, river otters, turtles, lizards and woodpeckers.
Challenge:
1. There was one animal that I was hoping to see but haven't. It is called a nutria. What is a nutria? Do we have them in Rochester?
2. How does the ecosystem of Rochester compare to Louisiana?

We googled nutria and found out that it is originally from South America and it is in the rodent family and that it is an herbivore. We saw some pictures of it and we think he looks like a beaver or an otter. He sure has big front teeth!! There seem to be more plants in the ecosystem of Louisianna. Luckily we do not have alligators in Rochester. Good thing you did not sit on that log for your lunch break!!! We cannot wait to see you on Tuesday. We wish you a safe flight home!! We miss you a LOT!!
Happy Halloween!! You look "boo"tiful in the bayou! Love, your class & mom
I think that the ecosystem of plants is greater than the number of plants in Rochester because there is a lot more bayous in New Orleans, and there is a lot of plants in a bayou. I think there is a lot more caterpillars in New Orleans at this time of year because it is too cold for most caterpillars up here. Hopefully you'll see some Monarchs flying south for the winter.
P.S. You look good. Hope you're having fun!
A nutria is a rodent that looks like a beaver with its big yellow buck teeth and brown and manilla fur. Nutria's origanally from South Amercia. The ecosystem in Louisiana has a lot more water and plants than the ecosystem in Rochester.Wich means there are probably more eggs, caterpillars and butterflies in Louisiana than Rochester.
