Nova Scotia and Climate Change
We've been studying climate change in the Southwest. Now we're going to move way up north to the area around Nova Scotia. Where is Nova Scotia?! Nova Scotia is the Eastern most province of Canada - surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean and just north of the state of Maine. It is home to a very diverse population of flora and fauna and is unique in the fact that it remains very untouched by humans. The diversity in this area is a result of the unique balance of environmental conditions which are expected to rapidly change due to global warming.
What are some of the mammals in this area?

The team will observe the behaviors of raccoons, beavers, skunks, porcupines, deer, elk, wolves, and other various animals.

Here are some of the mammals we discovered
Raccoons
Skunks
Lynx
White tailed deer
Squirrel!!!

You might see moose, white tailed deer, beavers, otters, lynx, chipmunks, pocupines. You might hear skunks and raccoons going through the garbage bins outside at night.
I hope that you take plenty of pictures of the various mammals that you find. Don't get too close to the porcupines though, they have needles that can hurt!

A shrew is a small mammal with a long nosed snout. They have sharp teeth and eat insects, nuts, seeds and worms.They are related to moles.
