Making a Map
Howdy Smarties,
Today we used GPS devices to help make a more accurate map of the new field site. What we did was we walked around our new trail and mapped out points around the area using the GPS device. Using a GPS for this will let us put the information into the computer and the computer will create a detailed map of our new site. We were sure to include all ponds and boulders along the trail as we walked along.
After we have these maps created we will then start marking where we find field signs (feces, fur, burrows, etc.) and look for patterns. The scientists who live here will keep marking these places and they will look at the patterns that they see over many years.
How do you think this information will help these scientists to learn about the animals in this particular environment?
Love,
Ms. Livingston
P.S. I hope this question was hard enough for you!

Dear Ms.Livingston
I thing that making a map will help you because you could learn more about how global worming is effecting them and because that will help you save them.
Love,
Jennifer
Dear,Ms.Livingston I think that you guys can find the animals if you make that trail. You will know were they live so you can trap them and study them.
I thin the map helps you because you well know weer are at.
I think If you make a map and where animal live If you do that you know where they live and you will not forget It.
I think that it is important for you because when those animals start vanishing then you will know that something is wrong.Or when you start to see more of them then you will know something is wrong.Oh and you still haven't answered my question about the name of the ocean you used to work by.

Dear:Ms.Livingston,
Like you said that you people make your tracks about where you find a trapp so you can't go back and see it again and think that there was a other one that you already had.

I think you mark the feces were you got the feces and my answer is it help you now more about animals and helps you if they have the same fur.
Dear Ms.Livingston
I think for the next time they came they will now were they put it on then they will get it fast.
I think it help because you cad see if the animals had baby and if they move cause not all of animals eat the same thin also they do not have the same fur.
Dear Ms.Livingston,
I think it is a good idea because you are not doing that mush or are you are to mush tails because you are killing the animal. What if you are the animal and people are killing you what will you do or die.

It helps you learn were they did feces like if a dog went outside and
did feces on a tree and if you look for a house thats for animals you will know witch house is that.
i thing you have to put the feces in the map because it tells you were the feces is at and like if you don't know were you put it at in thte map it tell you left the feces:)
We want to start by thanking you for the mammal pictures. The porcupine climbing up the tree was the most interesting thing that we saw. Some of us learned that porcupines can climb (Ms Waling was one of them). Porcupines are very dangerous because they protect themselves by shooting their spikes so be careful.
Was that the only beaver that you saw? Watch out for those too because they can chop down a tree and it might fall on you. Can you take more pictures of camouflaged animals?
Now to answer your question. We think that making a map of the forest will help the scientists when they need to find an animal. They might need to find an animal to observe it to see how it acts. The maps help you if you get lost. We think that making a map is hard. The maps help you find shortcuts, or the best way to get to the pond. The maps help the scientists find the homes of mammals and later they can check to see if the animal still lives there. The maps might help the scientists know where they can find the most fur because the animal might be sick or eaten by a predator. Have you studied any sick animals yet?
Thank you for making a blog so we can learn more about mammals in Nova Scotia.
Remember tomorrow is Arbor Day, be sure to wear green. We will be!
Dear Ms. Livingston,
We talked about why maps would help scientists. This is what we think:
The map could lead the way. It will help people go again. The scientists will know which animals live there because he will find feces, footprints, fur, etc. Over time, the scientist can see changes, if animals die or there are more. The map could also help people if they get lost and find their way back. It will also help if you forget where the feces is at.
