Challenge

Hey fourth graders! I know that a lot of you have been asking about where I am living and about the ocean and I promise to have more on that soon, but right now my challenge has to do with trapping.

Here is a video of what the missing traps looked like once I found them.

This actually happened to 4 of my traps today! Please help me figure this mystery out so I can stop it from happening again.

what are you trapping? Something similar happened when I was trapping small mammals for a small mammal survey...the little buggers had figured out how to get the PB without getting caught...either rig the traps better or get new traps. : )

Hi Miss Livingston! We had so much fun talking to you this morning. You look tired, but we think you are having a rockin' time with feces (Manuel said that)!

We think a bear or other large mammal got into your trap. (David thinks you should do a DNA test to figure out what kind of animal.) We think the animal smelled the apples and got hungry. But we know that the animal didn't step on the trap because it isn't crushed or dented. Maybe the animal shook it to make it come apart.

If you want to figure out what kind of animal got into the trap, we have some suggestions. First, you could look for footprints or traces of left-behind fur. We also know you could look for feces to identify the culprit. Jesus says you should arrest the animal if you find him or her. But we say you should take the animal to the zoo, not to jail.

1.What they eat what kind of animal is what they learn from feces.

2. We think that you measure the voles to see if it a male or female.

3..we think it is hares that lives in snow.

4..we think a fox taked the trap and distroy it all.

Three reasons to study feces is to learn : 1.What animal it is .2.And what they eat.3.And what animal its from.

2. We think you study mice and voles to maesure them and see if it is a femail or
a mail.
3.I think a snowshoe hare is a rabbit that lives
in snow. .
4.I think a owl broke it and ate the vole.

From the feces, you can learn:
1 what do they eat
2 what animal did the feces.
3 they could study it.

2 Scientists could shot the mice or vole to test there blood.Or they could use a measure thing that they could see it's whait!

3 we think that snowshoe means a white rabbit. We are not sure what snowshoe means.but we think that you guys use snowshoe to shot them and kmow if there affected or not.

4 we think that a fox went to get it and destroyed the trap!

1-Reasons 1-is that their easy to get.2-they change your what they eat.
3-They are the little animals.

question 2-That they easy to trap and. They can tell you information by looking at their fecis.

question 3-We think that is a hares that live in the snow.

question 4 -We think it was vole because they bite too much

I wish that we all get the answer right.

1 We think you use feces to check and see if the animal is eating enough food, how many carnivores are in the forest and how many herbivores are in the forest, and to lrean about how they live.

2 we think you trap mice and voles because mostly mics and voles are in that forest. To leran all about the voles and mise.

3 I think a snowshoe hare has white feet. I think they live in cold places.

4 I think that a vole or mouse got into the trap and tried to get out, and suceeded.

Ms. Baker's class thinks that a larger animal is trying to get into your traps.
It could be a...
*coyote
*bear
*group of mice working together to free their friend. (We all know that mice and all animals need space, water, food, and air.) That trap does not have a lot of space.
*woodpecker that pecked on the sides
*large bird

Oh...Could you try to find a picture of these types of insects?
*butterfly
*beetle
*moth
*fly
*cricket
*bee
*ant
Or any other interesting insects!!
Thank so much,
Ms. Bakers Class
PS A spider is not an insect because it has 8 legs and all insects have 6 legs, head, thorax, abdomen

1. Ms.livingston we think feces is important to scientist because they could know wich type of animal did
different kind of feces.

2. Remember you toled us about the voles that you measured a vole to know if it was a male or a female.

3. We think its like a rabbit that
very white because when we here
its called snow shoe in my head looks like a big rabbit with white
everywhere.

4. Ms.Livingston we think when a
mouse starts to smell the pieces
of apples it gets in the trap and when it gets in it trys to het ot and thats why its like that.

Question 1.Reason1 It can see if the mammal is not sick. Reason 2 Is the scientist doing the poop things like you? Reason 3 Why do you even have to smell the poop
for?

Question 2.Reason1 If the mice goes in and reaslly
fast out how will it close if there isn't poop inside.

Question 3. Reason 1 Their heavy, dirty, hard, andbrown colored thing.

Question 4. Reason 1 We think that the big mammals like deers might have broked it or the bigger mammals might have done it. =>

Hi Ms.Livingston,I think I have the answer to your question. The anwser is probably a bear or another large mammal shook the trap and ate the apple.
