our caterpillar has completed its metamorphosis

CONGRATULATIONS TO COYNE'S CATERPILLARS.... WE ARE PARENTS. Our caterpillar came out of the pupa on Easter Sunday. First, the pupa changed from bright green to bright yellow. It looked just like a yellow leaf. Right now I can look out my window and see him flitting around. He is beautiful. That means that he was in the pupa stage for approximately two weeks. Amazing.

He did it!!!

I am so excited!  Our little caterpillar fellow managed to pupate.  He was difficult to photograph because of the net and plastic.  No wonder I couldn't find any pupas before.  It looks exactly like a curved leaf.  What a marvelous camouflage system.  I brought him home from school on Friday, and today is Tuesday.  It took about 48 hours for him to change fully.  It will be interesting to see how much longer before we get a butterfly or moth.

Our new caterpillar friend

Well... after I put our caterpillar friend back on the Acacia plant. . . a huge wasp came and stung him!  He jumped, and I decided to put him back inside of the net to see if we could rear him.  Here are some photos.

Simple Machines

A lever is a simple machine that makes work easier for us:  it involves moving a load around a pivot using a force.  Take a look at the three types of levers.  Have you ever been on a seesaw at the park?
