One Week Countdown
Next Sunday at this time I'm going to be zooming my way to Palm Desert where my Earthwatch Expedition begins. I'll be assisting a botanist named Rusty Russell who works at the United States National Herbarium at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C. Using all sorts of new technology, we'll be investigating what's been happening with plants in the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains over the last hundred years.
Want to know more? Find the two words in this post with root/base words meaning 'plant' and leave me a message. Why are there two roots with the same meaning? What's the difference in their origins?

Dear Ms.Bhatt there are two different words for plant, because herb comes from Latin, and botanist comes from Greek.
The two words that have the base words that mean plant are botanist and herbarium. They both have the same meaning it's just that they are in different languages. Botanist means plant, and herbarium means grass. Botanist comes from Greek and herbarium comes from Latin.

Herbarium is a Latin word.Botanist is a Greek word. They are different beacause they are different kinds of langauges.
I read through the paragraph above and I found the words botanist and herbarium. A "botanist" is a person who studies plants for their growth and structure. A herbarium is a place/farm/garden that grows perennials. They are all nouns. Over all I learned a lot.
