Beginning a New Adventure

It is exciting to be part of a new adventure that hopefully will include all students of North Sanpete.  It has taken a quite a bit of time to prepare and as you can expect, the results so far look promising.  I will be leaving for the island of San Salvador in the Bahamas on November 21.  I will use this blog to ask you questions about ocean conservation the week before I leave and I will be communicating with you during my stay there.  I will be working with researchers while I am on this island and everything that I experience, I will share with you.

To start, where is San Salvador exactly and why is this small piece of the world so historically important?

San Salvador is one of the most beautiful Islands I know in the Bahamas; it is the most eastern Island and about 180 miles south of Nassau. About 1500 people live on the Island. Guess it is so important because Christopher Columbus first landed there. If I remember correctly there are 4 Columbus monuments on the Island.
